Doc Watson is from North Carolina and was raised on the Old Time Country Music, and Gospel Music. The List of Old Time Country Music songs, and Gospel Music songs, that Doc Watson draws from for his recordings seems to know no bounds. Doc Watson plays the Old Time Country Songs, and Gospel Music with great pride and style. I doubt that anyone would have dreamed that a performer of authentic Old Time Country Music could ever have become a popular recording artists. However, no one counting on a Genius Musician like Doc Watson coming along to play this kind of music for the world. Doc Watson has preserved an art form that was fast dying with the advent of Modern Country Music. Only a Musical Genius such as Doc Watson could have popularized Old Time Country Music and made it one of the most respected Art Forms to ever be recorded.

You might be interested to know that I read where Jerry Reed Said in the beginning of his Guitar Playing Career he practiced 16 hours a day.

I read where Chet Atkins wrote that he practiced 8 hours a day, every day of his life, in addition to his professional playing. And Chet said that he would never let a day go by unless he put in his 8 hours of practice.

If Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins Needed so much practice, how much practice does the average Guitar Player need to be good?

After reading how much time Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins put in practicing the Guitar I thought I might need 14 hours a day. So for three years I practiced 14 hours a day. I was pleasantly surprised to find out what 14 hours of practice a day would do for my Guitar Playing.

Though Doc Watson loves and Plays the Old Time Country Music, his genius in music knows no bounds. Doc can play Jazz and Blues, and every other Genre of Music and play it very fluently. Doc Watson tells of being a Duke Ellington Fan when he was growing up. He was exposed to the Big Band Music and loved it.

This wonderful video with a national treasure has been re-edited and formatted for DVD. It's now easier than ever to access the wonderful songs and instrumentals that have made Doc one of the most beloved folk artists of all time.

Doc Watson, a true master of traditional guitar styles, teaches some of the most requested fingerpicking and flatpicking tunes in his vast repertoire.

Split-screen images allow you to watch his picking and fretting hands at the same time. You'll see and hear Doc's guitar playing in slowed-down, close-up detail, and, with his clear explanations and demonstrations, you'll soon be playing his definitive arrangements of "Deep River Blues," "Blue Railroad Train," "Bluebell," "Windy And Warm," "Southbound," "Black Mountain Rag," "Beaumont Rag," "Georgie," "East Tennessee Blues," "Way Downtown," "The Cuckoo," "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down" and other great folk and country songs.

As an added treat, Doc is joined in music and conversation by Pete Seeger, Mike Seeger (banjo), Kirk Sutphin (fiddle), and long-time musical partner Jack Lawrence (guitar), who adds some invaluable pointers on back-up guitar and his own excellent flatpicking style.

Doc Watson loves the Music of Merle Travis so much that he named his son after the Great Guitar Player.  This is the greatest tribute that one man can pay to another man. Doc Watson can play the Thumb and Finger Style that Merle Travis Popularized, and to me this is his best style of Guitar Playing. However, Doc Watson is an expert in Flat Picking, and it was his Guitar Playing that made Acoustic Guitar Flat Picking Come into Prominence and endure.  Using a Flat Pick Doc Watson can play fiddle tunes on the Acoustic Guitar and play them so well that even Bill Monroe plus Flatt and Skruggs were highly impressed. Doc Watson and Bill Monroe made many recordings together. This shows how much Doc Watson is admired by the most professional musicians.
